1919

Joseph Baumgarten founds an electrical equipment company. In 1924, the company becomes BACO Constructions Electriques SA (formerly Baumgarten & Compagnie) and specialises in the manufacture of electrical devices (switchboards).


1939

Due to the war, all production means are transferred to Limoges where the activity continues until 1945, at which time BACO returns to Strasbourg.


1950

The company decides to gradually give up its traditional activities in order to specialise in the manufacture of mass equipment such as consumer combined circuit breakers and snap action switches.


1964

The constant development of the company leads to the construction of a new 7500 m² factory on a 30,000 m² site on the Strasbourg-Meinau industrial estate. Two new lines of development are introduced - cam switches and control and signalling devices.


1969

Extension of the site to 10,000 m².


1970

Launch of the consumer combined circuit breakers and their derivatives, and of the PR cam switch range.


1973

The site is extended again, increasing the plant surface area to 15,000 m². Manpower exceeds 900 people.


1977

Launch of the control and signalling range AUXIBLOC and manufacture of the first residual current circuit breakers.


1983

Launch of the DBC consumer combined circuit breaker range.


1992

26th June - BACO joins the Legrand group. This decision is dictated by the desire to ensure the future of the company. Launch of the new control and signalling range AUXIBLOC+.


1996

Launch of the REVERSO switch disconnector range.


1998

ISO 9001 certification.


2000

ISO 14000 certification. Launch of the new INTERGUARD residual current circuit breaker range.


2005

September 1 - launch of the "10-year guarantee" on BACO products.


2006

January 1 - BACO products all conform to the European RoHS Directive.


2007

January 1 - launch of the new range of Control and Signalling devices - L series.


2008

January 1 - BACO takes into account of the new REACH obligations an takes the necessary steps to comply with this European regulation.


2009

January 1 - BACO’s EN 418 Emergency Stop devices comply with IEC 60947-1, IEC 60947-5-1 and IEC 60947-5-5 and therefore meet the requirements of ISO 13850: Safety of Machinery - Emergency stop principles.
